Why Sackbut's Site?
The Sackbut was the forerunner of the modern trombone.  You can see from the picture on the left that the old sackbut has the same shape as a modern trombone. The difference is that the tubing is narrower and the bell is smaller. Since I play the trombone, I decided to name my page in honour of it's ancient ancestor!

These pictures were taken from an excellent page on the sackbut. The page explains exactly how the instrument got it's strange name (and also the many different spellings of the name).
